Postcolonial Queer Europe

LAMBDA NORDICA – NORDIC JOURNAL FOR LGBTQ STUDIES

Deadline for abstracts: September 1, 2015

 

In recent years, the intersection between postcolonial/critical race theory and queer theory/studies has proved one of the most urgent and productive themes within US/Anglo-American LGBTQ studies. Simultaneously, alongside new approaches to intersectionality, feminist studies of European and Nordic colonialism, postsocialist, postcolonial and queer of color critiques of Europe/Europeanness and importantly, critical race studies, are on the rise in Europe. This special issue of lambda nordica aims to address of some of these themes and invites submissions for articles that empirically and theoretically engage with European materials and perspectives. What challenges and questions do postcolonial, postsocialist and critical race theoretical perspectives pose for queer studies in the Nordic region and in Europe more broadly?

Topics can include (but are not limited to):

  • Queering Sápmi and Kalaallit Nunaat
  • Queer/indigenous activism/studies
  • Black/Asian/Arab European queer studies
  • Postsocialist and postcolonial critiques of queer studies
  • Queer of color critique
  • Queer Antiracism/Antiracist queer activism in Europe/the Nordic region
  • Homonationalism and Sexual citizenship
  • LGBTQ asylum/refugee rights and activism
  • Queering diaspora and migration studies
  • Queering the history of racial biology
  • Queerness and (Nordic/European) colonialism
  • Queer/critical race theory
  • Teaching intersectionality and queer/postcolonial studies
  • Critical Whiteness studies

Articles should be between 5,000 and 7,000 words including footnotes and references and should not have been published previously. The issue will be in English. For more detailed instructions, see the journal webpage: www.lambdanordica.se.

We strive to support the dialogue between established and younger scholars to inspire to more LGBTQ research in the Nordic area and support the initiative to new research areas in the field. The journal also introduces and reviews international LGBTQ literature.
